Oh So Boring…

The trials and tribulations of a man and his life. Tribulations, that's an odd word. Let's blog about it…

School Daze

Welp, it’s the time for school to begin for elhi to college students alike. And, perhaps feeling the vibes, I’m actually thinking about taking a class or some classes myself. Part to learn something new and cool and part, if I’m being honest, in the hope of meeting new people.  Though, really, hard to do in a 3-hour one-time class…hmm…

Still, classes!  As a resident of Fairfax County, I’m looking over the Fairfax County ACE courses.  I’ve looked at them all, and most of  them sound cool, but FC is a big county and I’m not really looking to have to drive 1 hour in rush-hour traffic after work to get to a class.  So, I’m focusing on ones near me (Annandale-ish area, the Plum Center is ideal).

To that end, I’ve identified two courses that I might do.  First is Lebanese Cuisine: Vegetarian and the other is Indian Cuisine: Vegetarian. Very veggie of me, eh?

I’m also looking at Thai Cuisine as well, but it conflicts with the Lebanese course. I suppose right now I’m trying to decide, do I do Lebanese or Thai?

So, my two or so readers and my 5603242237 Russian spammers, which one should I choose?  (I thought about doing a poll, but polls on WordPress aren’t as easy as I thought so I said screw that. It’s relaxing weekend time!)

Yours in student,

Matt

  1. Ummm…hard decision. Personally, I like Thai food a lot but I don’t know much about Lebanese food. I think you should go with whichever cuisine you like better because you’re gonna be cooking and eating it afterward.

Well, I like all the cuisines. I have a Lebanese bakery near me, so I’m learning that…but Thai food is good, and that course sounds like it might be a bit more complete. And then there’s the fact that I’m mainly a veggie cook at home…

In the end, I’m sure I’ll end up taking beginning plumbing or something because I keep hemming and hawing about this!

Yeah? How do you know your Russian spammers aren’t also readers?

I go for Indian. Maybe you can pick up a chick in the class–not only will she be able to cook, but I am told Indian chicks make the best lovers. ;)

I say go for Thai! I like both kinds of food a lot, but Thai seems more…complex maybe? Thai food has both spicy & sweet foods, plus new-to-you spices, and you’ll be learning curries and noodles and soups…fun!

Very true…the soup part especially. I tend to eat a lot of soups, and a good tom kha gai recipe would be nice to have.

I wish they’d list the dishes you’d be learning. I like most foods but there are some I’d rather not eat, let alone handle in a kitchen!

i would personally choose lebanese for it sounds interesting. i tried thai peanut sauce once and it was terrible. think spaghetti with melted peanut butter and chili’s. not so great.

They actually have all these cool classes that are meant for apartment managers. Basic plumbing, drywalling, &c. I think those are basic skills I should know, but sadly don’t.

And, you know, Thai peanut sauce can be really good or really bad. Same for dan dan mien, the Chinese peanut noodles. Luckily the dan dan mien I can find near me are really good.

  5. Personally I vote for Thai. Just because I’m a lover of Thai food. :-D
